Upgrading or Downgrading Your Plan
As your church grows or your needs change, you can adjust your Wired Church subscription at any time. Upgrades take effect immediately with prorated billing, while downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period. This guide explains exactly how each scenario works and what happens to your data.
How to Upgrade Your Plan
Upgrading is instant. As soon as you confirm, the new plan features are available.
Steps to Upgrade
- Navigate to Admin > Settings > Billing.
- Click Manage Plan or Upgrade.
- Select the plan you want to upgrade to (Pro or Enterprise).
- Review the plan comparison showing what you gain.
- If you do not have a payment method on file, enter one now.
- Review the prorated charge amount for the remainder of your current billing period.
- Click Confirm Upgrade.
What Happens Immediately After Upgrading
- All new plan features unlock instantly.
- Your member limit, campus limit, fund limit, and other quotas update to the new plan's values.
- The admin dashboard reflects the new plan.
- A confirmation email is sent to your billing contact.
If you are upgrading from Starter to Pro because you hit the 50-member limit, you can begin adding new members immediately after the upgrade completes.
Prorated Billing on Upgrades
When you upgrade mid-billing period, Wired Church calculates a prorated charge:
- The system determines how many days remain in your current billing period.
- You are charged the price difference between your old plan and new plan, prorated for those remaining days.
- On your next billing date, you are charged the full new plan price.
Example
- You are on the Starter plan (free).
- On March 15, you upgrade to Pro ($49/month).
- Your billing period runs from the 1st to the 30th.
- Remaining days: 16 out of 31.
- Prorated charge: $49 x (16/31) = $25.29 charged immediately.
- On April 1, you are charged the full $49 for the new period.
The exact prorated amount is shown on the confirmation screen before you click "Confirm Upgrade." There are no hidden charges.
How to Downgrade Your Plan
Downgrading does not take effect immediately. It is scheduled for the end of your current billing period.
Steps to Downgrade
- Navigate to Admin > Settings > Billing.
- Click Manage Plan.
- Select the lower plan you want to switch to.
- Review the downgrade impact summary (what features and limits change).
- Acknowledge the impact by checking the confirmation box.
- Click Schedule Downgrade.
What Happens After Scheduling a Downgrade
- Your current plan remains fully active until the end of the billing period.
- A banner appears on the billing page showing the scheduled downgrade date.
- On the effective date, your plan automatically switches to the lower tier.
- You receive an email confirmation when the downgrade takes effect.
You can cancel a scheduled downgrade at any time before it takes effect. Go to Admin > Settings > Billing and click Cancel Downgrade on the banner.
What Happens to Your Data When Downgrading
Downgrading never deletes your data. However, features beyond the new plan's limits become restricted. Here is how each area is handled:
Members
| Scenario | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Current members exceed new plan limit | All existing member records are preserved. You cannot add new members until your count is below the limit. |
| Members at or below new limit | No change. |
Wired Church will never delete member records due to a downgrade. If you have 200 members and downgrade to Starter (50 limit), all 200 records remain accessible. You simply cannot add member #201.
Campuses
| Scenario | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Multiple campuses, downgrading to single-campus plan | Extra campuses become read-only. You can view all data but cannot create new records under non-primary campuses. |
| Single campus | No change. |
When extra campuses become read-only, you can still view historical data (contributions, attendance, events) for those campuses. You cannot create new batches, record attendance, or schedule events at read-only campuses.
Contribution Funds
| Scenario | Behavior |
|---|---|
| More funds than new plan allows | Extra funds are preserved but marked inactive. You can view historical contributions but cannot post new contributions to inactive funds. |
| Funds at or below new limit | No change. |
Bank Feeds
| Scenario | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Connected bank accounts exceed new limit | Extra connections are paused. No new transactions are imported. Existing imported data remains. |
| Connections at or below new limit | No change. |
Custom Domain
| Scenario | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Downgrading from Pro/Enterprise to Starter | Custom domain is deactivated. Your site reverts to yourchurch.wiredchurch.app. The domain configuration is saved so it can be reactivated if you upgrade again. |
| Staying on Pro or Enterprise | No change. |
SMS Messaging
| Scenario | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Downgrading to Starter (no SMS) | SMS broadcasting is disabled. 2FA falls back to email-only verification. Existing SMS history is preserved. |
| Staying on a plan with SMS | No change to functionality; monthly SMS limit may change. |
The Pro Plan: The Sweet Spot
For most churches, the Pro plan provides the best balance of features and value:
- 500 members covers the vast majority of congregations.
- 3 campuses supports multi-site growth.
- Unlimited funds removes restrictions on your financial structure.
- Custom domain provides professional branding.
- Bank feeds enable automated financial management.
- Full fund accounting with journal entries, trial balances, and financial statements.
- Priority support for faster issue resolution.
If your church has fewer than 500 members and 3 or fewer campuses, the Pro plan likely has everything you need. Upgrade to Enterprise only when you outgrow these limits or need features like API access and a dedicated account manager.
Enterprise for Large Organizations
The Enterprise plan is designed for:
- Churches with more than 500 active members.
- Multi-campus organizations with 4 or more locations.
- Denominations or church networks managing multiple congregations.
- Organizations that need API access for custom integrations.
- Churches that require a dedicated account manager for onboarding and support.
Enterprise Features Beyond Pro
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Unlimited members | No cap on member records |
| Unlimited campuses | Add as many locations as needed |
| Unlimited staff users | No restriction on admin/staff accounts |
| 10,000 emails/month | 5x the Pro plan broadcast limit |
| 2,000 SMS/month | 4x the Pro plan SMS limit |
| 100 GB storage | 4x the Pro plan storage |
| Multi-entity accounting | Separate books per campus or entity |
| API access | REST API for custom integrations |
| Dedicated account manager | Named contact for support and onboarding |
Enterprise pricing may vary based on organization size. Contact Wired Church sales for a custom quote if the standard Enterprise pricing does not fit your needs.
Annual Billing Discount
Save money by switching to annual billing:
- Navigate to Admin > Settings > Billing.
- Click Manage Plan.
- Toggle the billing cycle from Monthly to Annual.
- The discounted annual price is displayed (typically a savings equivalent to 2 months free).
- Click Switch to Annual Billing.
Annual billing charges the full year upfront. If you switch mid-period, the prorated difference is calculated and charged.
Annual billing is especially cost-effective for established churches with predictable needs. You save the equivalent of two months compared to paying monthly.
Switching Back to Monthly
If you are on annual billing and want to switch back to monthly:
- Go to Admin > Settings > Billing > Manage Plan.
- Toggle billing cycle to Monthly.
- The change takes effect at the end of your current annual term.
- You will not receive a refund for the remaining annual period.
